2022 International Peace Day: Yoruba Community in Kano Calls for Peace Ahead of 2023 Polls.

The Yoruba Community in Kano state has urged politicians, people, security agencies and all other stakeholders to prioritize peace in their routine activities to have successful conduct of 2023 general elections saying the life and dignity of each human being should be respected.

The Emir of Yoruba community in Kano Murtala Alimu Otisese stated this as part of the activity to mark the celebration of 2022 International Day of Peace organised by “MAO Peace Initiative” and “Sports Without Borders” held in Kano.

He said United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural organization UNESCO set aside manifesto 2000 for culture, peace and nonviolence which focused on uniting people against any form of physical, sexual, psychological, economic and social violence.

According to him the manifesto asked individuals to pledge for peace with a slogan “in my daily life, in my family, my work, my community, my country and my region”.

Alimu Otisese hoped that people will gives priority to maintaining law and order so as the coming elections will be peaceful.

His word reads: “Respect the life and dignity of each human being without discrimination or prejudice”.

“Practise active nonviolence, rejecting violence in all its
forms: physical, sexual, psychological, economic and social, in particular towards the most deprived and vulnerable such as children and adolescents”.

“Share my time and material resources ina spirit of generosity to put an end to exclusion, injustice and political and economic oppression”.

“Contribute to the development of my community, with the full participation of women and respect for democratic principles, in order to create together new forms of solidarity”.
