2022 World Sight Day: Over 12 Thousand People to Benefits KSNG Eye Interventions

The Kano state government (KNSG) says over 12 thousands people to benefit from its various eye Interventions programmes in the State.

The State commissioner for Health Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa stated while briefing journalist as part of the commemoration of 2022 world sight day held in Kano.

Represented by the Director General hospital management board Dr Nasiru Alhassan Kabo, Tsanyawa said during the last year’s event over 17 thousands people in the state benefited from various eye intervention including contact surgery, glasses, eye-drops and other medications.

He pointed out that, during this year’s event which commence on Thursday 27th October in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area, a similar programs will be conducted targeting over 12 Thousands patients throughout the state.

“Kano state government has institutionalized primary eye care into primary health care system, and memorandum of understanding was signed with Makka Eye specialist Hospital were the implementing health facilities were renovated and supplied with Opthalmology equipment Primary eye care have since been commenced in those primary Healthcare facilities”, said the Tsanyawa.

The commissioner further said the ophthalmology unit of Muhammad Abdullahi wase Teaching Hospital has been renovated and well equipped, specialise eye services has commenced, adding that a comprehensive eye center has been established in Dawakin Tofa General hospital, also all the Four newly established emirate specialist Hospitals has comprehensive eye health unit.

He then commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, development partners for their support in improving the healthcare sector in the state.
