KNSG flag-off Dec, 2023 MNCH Week, Polio Vaccination Campaign

Kano state government has assured its effort to improve maternal and new-born and child health across the state.

The state commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf stated this during the flag off the integrated maternal and child health week (MNCHW) and polio Vaccination (nOPV2) campaign in the state.

The commissioner represented by Director General state primary health care management board Dr. Nasiru Mahmoud said during the week women and children are provided with a free medical services includes drugs such as multiple micronutrient supplement for pregnant women, antenatal care, family planning services, vitamin A supplement and Deworming of children under five years of age, immunization services.

Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf pointed out that, during the week there will be continue with the forth round of polio outbreak Response (OBR) with aimed at preventing the ongoing outbreak of Circulating Variant of Virus .

“During the integrated campaigns, more than Three million Children Under five will be vaccinated with nOPV2 and other vaccines for prevention of polio and other vaccine preventable Diseases. The children will also be reached with the MNCHW intervention.” The commissioner said

The commissioner further said, since the beginning of this year, Kano state government in collaboration with partners administered more than Three million doses of malaria prevention drugs worth billions of Naira with a view to preventing malaria.

“The ministry and indeed the general public have noticed with satisfaction the reduction in the incidence of malaria cases in the state especially among the children. This showcases the commitment of present administration under governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,” Dr. Abubakar Labaran said.

The commissioner called on people of the state to seize the opportunity to avail their children aged 0-59 months to receive this cost-effective intervention to protect them against polio virus other vaccine preventable Diseases such as Diphtheria, measles. He also called on all pregnant women to positively utilize MNCH week services being provided more than 1,200 health facilities in the state.
