The Benin Recreation Club on Sunday, July 9, 2023 held their 2023 mid-year Annual General Meeting at the Club house in Benin, the Edo State capital as part of the activities of events lined-up for the celebration of the ninetieth anniversary of the club.
Speaking at the event, President of the Club and All Progressive Congress Edo South Senatorial candidate in the 2023 general election, Dr. Valentine Asuen thanked all members for their trust, cooperation and support for the management of the club.
He said that 2023 is a remarkable year as the club will be celebrating ninetieth anniversary under his leadership.
“It is a very remarkable year for us and we have put everything in place to commence the ninetieth celebration of the club.
At our mid-year AGM, we officially unveiled our official logo and the mascot for our AGM anniversary. From today to the end of the year, it is going to be celebration all day and I am happy as the president to experience this in my time.
“We have a lot of recreational facility here. We have different sections such as the swimming pool, the tennis section and others. I urged you too and members of the public to join us in this remarkable experience.”
Dr. Asuen stated that despite numerous challenges, the club under his leadership has achieved massive development in the space of six months.
He pointed out that the club were able to successfully complete the construction of the kitchen at the swimming pool section and it has since been put to use, installation of closed circuit surveillance 16 units of indoor and outdoor cameras with one terabyte backup hard disk for surveillance of the entire premises to deter crime and recall backup footage of activities in the club.
He told the members that, biometric access control facility has been installed in the entrance and exit doors of the club which will help restrict unsolicited entry into the club premises by intruders for indebted members, installation of 5KVA solar hybrid facility to effect uninterrupted operation at the club premises, successful creation of the club’s website, upgrading of the club’s membership data via the membership data on the club’s website, putting in place computer generated sales and inventory mechanism for proper control and accountability of the club’s revenue, Cat6 Ethernet networking of all the computers in the club premises for digital communication of data amongst the respective departments, establishment of functional secretariat fully equipped with state of the art amenities to meets up with the administrative needs of all members of the club among other lined up for execution.
He solicited the continued support of all members to enable the leadership achieve the set goals.
The executive members of the club later presented their mid-year reports to the house for adoption.
A former president of the club, Eldee Osahi expressed satisfaction at the performance of the club executive members thus far.
According to him: “…It’s been very educative. A lot of issues raised today and we are harmonizing all the grey areas and hopefully by the time the executive members meet, they should be able to address all the matters that have risen today.”
High point of the event was the unveiling of the amended constitution, new logo and mascot for the Annual General Meeting.
