Domesticate Freedom of Information Law, Implement OGP State Action Plan, Stakeholders Urges Governor Obaseki

Participants at a one day stakeholders meeting to discuss key transparency and accountability initiatives in Edo State have called on Governor Godwin Obaseki to domestic the freedom information law and implement the Open Government Partnership Edo State Action Plan.

In an opening remark, Executive Director, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice, ANEEJ, Reverend David Ugolor decried non formal approval for the implementation of some transparency and accountability initiatives by the Edo State Government .

Reverend Ugolor stated that ANEEJ has worked with several partners like Rolac, West Minister Foundation for Democracy the OGP national secretariat, the Edo State Government to advance some of the initiatives that promote accountability and public participation in governance.

Represented by the Deputy Executive Director, ANEEJ, Mr Leo Atakpu , Reverend Ugolor made case for the full operationalization of OGP, FOI and other transparency initiatives in Edo State.

On his part, Rule of Law and Anti- corruption Manager Rolac, Mr. Emmanuel Uche said the implementation of various anti- corruption initiatives in Edo State will go a long way in fighting corruption and enhancing transparency and accountability in the state.

There were various good will messages from representatives of the EFCC, ICPC among others.

The event was attended by participants from various stakeholders from civil society organizations, media and the Nigeria Bar Association.
