The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Kingsley Unije for forgery, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering to the tune of Three Hundred and Forty Million Naira only
He was arraigned today before Justice M.G Umar of Federal High Court sitting Enugu, on five-count charges bordering on forgery, obtaining money by false and money laundering.
A Statement by the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Mr Dele Oyewale indicates that the charge against Mr Unije in May 2022 in Enugu obtained the sum of N170,000,000.00 from Igwe Cosmas Ezeumeh under the false pretense that you were selling to him two landed property.
It says another Charge reveals that Mr. UNIJE also converted the sum of One hundred and Twenty Million Naira by purchasing two landed properties in his personal name, and one in the name of Michael Emeka Bernard the proceeds Court described as unlawful act.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Al’qasim Jaafar prayed for a trial date and the remand of the defendant in a Correctional Centre.
Meanwhile, defence counsel, Beatrice Nwatueze prayed the court for the bail of his client.
After listening to both counsels, Justice Umar remanded the suspect in a Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter to January 30, 2024 for hearing of the bail application.
Similarly, The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC Kaduna Zonal Command has facilitated conviction and Sentence of two internet Fraudsters to four year imprisonment.
A Statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Dele Oyewale says the Judge in his Rulling, Justice A.A Isiaka of the Kaduna State High Court sentenced Ibrahim Dyeris, alias Kyala Ford and Mathew Mcconaughey and Daniel Chukwuemeka Emodi after pleading guilty to one-count separate charge bordering on impersonation raised against them by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC.
The Court ruled against Dyeris that between the months of April and September, 2023 in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of impersonated one Matthew Mcconaughey on ‘facebook ‘ when he claimed to be a woman in the United States Air Force F-35A Lightning II Demonstration Team and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.”
They both pleaded guilty when the charges were read to them.
Based on their pleas, prosecution counsel M. Lawal prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly.
Justice Isiaka thereafter convicted Dyeris and Emodi to two years imprisonment each with an option of fine to the tune of N150, 000
They also forfeited the phones they used to commit the crimes to the Federal Government.
