FG encourages LCRI to increase Wheat production in Nigeria – Dr. Muhammad.

The minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr Muhammad Mahmoud Abubakar stated this on the occasion of Lake Chad Research Institute (LCRI) national irrigated Wheat Farmers field day at Kwandoru in kura local government of Kano state.

The minister represented by the zonal Director of the ministry in charge of north west Kaduna Dr Alao Mitchell said federal government encouraging Lake Chad Research Institute among others to put more effort in making sure that Nigeria produce more wheat.

“Yhese wheat field is to sensitize farmers and partners collaborate in this sector as to challenges has been encounters in the wheat sector.” Minister added

In his speech, the Director/chief Executive officer Lake Chad Research Institute ( LCRI) Professor Baba Gana Jugudum Kabir said this is the annual event aimed at showcasing performance of the developed technologies that are transferred to the farmers.

“The institute has the national mandate for the genetic improvement of wheat, Millet and Barely as well as the investigation of the problem of production of all agricultural food crops grown in the north west agro- echoligical zone with emphasis on farming systems including integration of livestock tree crops and agro forestry into production system”. Professor Jugudum said.

The Director urged farmers to embrace wheat farming, because is lucrative business the return from a hectare. He commended the federal government for given all necessary attention in the Agricultural sector.

In his speech the royal father of the day and district Head of Kwandoru village Alhaji Sulaiman Ahmad, applauded the Management of the Institute for chosen his domain for this year’s event.

In his goodwill massage, the Acting President wheat farmers Association of Nigeria Malam Musa Shehu said the time has come to see commitment of Lake Chad Research Institute for the new technologies and innovations they were bringing to them.

The institute deserved a commendation for its job well done so far for the improvement of wheat farming in the country”. Musa Shehu said.

In their sperate remarks, some of the farmers at the occasion commended the Institute for introducing the new technologies and innovations in the wheat farming.
