FRCN Seeks Support Of Traditional Institution To Reposition The Corporation

The Director General Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Dr. Mohammed Bulama says the Corporation will expand its services to cover every part of the country.

Dr. Bulama stated this when he paid homage to the Shehu of Borno, Dr. Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, at his palace in Maiduguri.

He said, the purpose of his visit is to seek for royal blessing and support to enable him succeed as Director General.

According to him, radio is widely listened to particularly in northern Nigeria, hence the need to expand its coverage to reach people at the grassroot to ensure sustainable peace and development.

The Director General informed Shehu that a new FM station would be established in Gwoza local government while effort is on to set up another station in Monguno, northern part of the state.

“We have a rich tradition of listening to radio in northern Nigeria which has diminished because of the problems especially the FRCN has over the years, the neglect it has suffered, the underfunding, it is in this light that we appeal to high royal highness to assist us through mobilising other traditional rulers and other elites in northern Nigeria to reposition the FRCN l,” Bulama said.


Dr Bulama solicited the support of the traditional institution to ensure that FRCN is fully transformed.

Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi described his appointment as well deserved, assuring to give all the necessary support and guidance to achieve the desired result.

He requested the DG to establish a station in Monguno to cover remote areas such as Gudumbali, Malamfatori and Kukawa to promote the culture of peace and sustainable development.

The Director General was accompanied on the visit by some management staff of the Corporation.
