Funtua Wind Storm: All Inmates Are Intact, Reconstruction of Perimeter Fence Ongoing, Says, Katsina Controller of Corrections

The Assistant Controller General of Corrections In-charge of Zone B, comprising of Katsina, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna States, ACG Usman Abubakar has ordered the immediate transfer of some high-profile inmates from the Funtua Medium Security Custodial Centre in Katsina State.

Abubakar gave the directive when he led his management team to inspect the 153 meters of perimeter wall that collapsed due to windy conditions and heavy downpour at the Medium Security Custodial Center, MSCC, Funtua.

In a statement by the Corrections Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Najibullah Idris, ACG Abubakar, directed the State Controller to transfer some high-profile inmates to nearby medium security custodial centers in the State accordingly.

The Katsina State Controller of Corrections, Muhammad Abdulmumin briefed the ACG on the state of affairs with regards to the incident, saying that the windy storm that pulled down the fence occurred on May 31 at about 3:30 pm.

Abdulmumin further added that, no life was lost and that, no case of inmate escaping was also recorded.

He further assured the ACG that the situation had been put under control, adding that his men and other sister security agencies had been drafted in order to beef up the security of the facility.

The statement added that, work to erect the fallen perimeter fence has since commenced.
