Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been commended for the tremendous and splendid support he accords to healthcare system of the state.
The state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa made the commendation in a press statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Ministry Ibrahim Abdullahi in commemoration of this year’s World Health Day.
The United Nations has set aside 7th of April every year for the member countries to celebrate the World Health Day across the globe.
Dr. Tsanyawa said that the sterling leadership style of Governor Ganduje since coming on board in 2015 in uplifting the healthcare system is superb and proved him as versatile, focused and visionary leader, whose passion on health service delivery is unmatched with his counterparts in the country.
The Commissioner maintained that since 1963 when the state was named Kano, there has not been any Governor that did what Khadimul Islam has done positively to the health sector of the state.
He elatedly stated that steadily and systematically Governor Ganduje keeps increasing the yearly budgetary allocation of health sector until it met up the 2008 Abuja Declaration on Health which has it that all states of the federation should ensure 15% of their yearly total budgetary allocation is moved to the health sector.
He noted with satisfaction that, on coming on board, the health friendly Governor has ensured that the two mega hospitals project in Giginyu and Zoo Road were completed and put to use for the benefit of people, not only of the state, but to the entire county, a feat that resulted into a successful conduct of brain surgery first of its kind in the history of the state.
He further noted that under Ganduje administration, five additional health agencies have been established namely: Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Kano State Health Trust Fund, Private Health Institutions Management Board, Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids and Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, with a view to ease access to care by the Kano populace.
“All these are in addition of renovation, construction and upgrading of hundreds of primary and secondary health facilities across the state. The Governor also built a specialist hospital in each of the newly established Emirates and equipped them with the state-of-the-art equipments with a world-class Cancer Centre at Muhammad Buhari General Hospital none of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.
“Governor Ganduje’s administration has sustained and even fine-tuned the free intervention programmes such as Free Maternal and Child Health, Accident and Emergency, Cleaning and Cleansing, etc where millions of Naira are being expended every month to procure drugs and consumables, and supply them to health facilities for onward dispensing free to the deserving people and to keep hospitals clean and tidy as well”, said the Commissioner.
Dr. Tsanyawa acknowledged the reactive and proactive approaches been taken by Khadimul Islam in containing the Covid-19 pandemic in the state, adding that “If not Kano, being the most populous state in the country, is blessed with a visionary leader like Dr. Ganduje, who has political will to serve his people relentlessly, the issue would haven worsen than any state in the country.”
To this end, the Commissioner urged people of the state to continue rally round the Ganduje led administration so as to perfectly accomplish its people oriented policies, projects and programmes.
