ICPC launches Anti Corruption Clubs in Secondary Schools Nationwide

The Independent Corrupt and Other Offences Related Practices Commission ICPC has launched a Nationwide Anti Corruption Clubs with 30 Secondary Schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as pilot for the project.

During the Inauguration, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Musa Aliyu who spoke on the “Place of Youths in the fight Against Corruption in Nigeria, decried how deeply rooted Corruption affect Education and other Sectors of the Nation.
Samuel Adeyinka reports that similar inauguration is expected in other geo political Zones with aim to build a Network of young Nigerians to join the fight against Corruption.

The Chairman of ICPC, Dr Aliyu urged the Students to lead by Example in their respective Schools as ANTI-CORRUPTION Ambassadors exhibiting integrity, Sincerity and Good values for others to emulate and thereby impact on the nation.

Dr Aliyu highlighted sex for grade, Examination Malpractices, and gratification as parts of the Corruption affecting Education sector, hence the need for Students to key in to the mandate of the ICPC of prevention, Prosecution and Education on Corruption.
“I want you to know that your Attitude within and outside the school must distinguished you from others, ICPC bestow this trust in you to join the fight against Corruption because this Nation belong to you, let make better from now”. ICPC Chairman said.

He said the primary aim of Anti Corruption Clubs was to build a culture of fairness, equality, and Transparency in the Society by instill and develop Young Nigerians at all level of Education to join the race against Corruption.

Acting Director Public Enlightment and Education Department , Mrs Azuka Ogugua said the event was in line with the act established the ICPC on its mandate to keep the Public informed on importance of inculcating good Values on the Public including the School age Children.
“We are not just doing this, it is part of our Mandate to Educate the public including you to shun act of Corruption and expose Corrupt in the Society”. Mrs Ogugua explained.

The Director, FCT secondary Education Board Director, represented by An Assistant Director in the Board, Mr Nneoyi Itam acknowledged the roles ICPC had been playing towards Educate Young people desist from Internet fraudster and Exam Malpractice and promised the Board to foster existing relationship with the Anti graft Agencies.

Also, Director , FCT Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mrs Yacim Bako maintained that the war against Corruption needed collective efforts of all and Sundry.

Also, the Deputy Director, Education Division, Public Enlightment and Education Department, ICPC, Mr John Odey urged the Students to shun Exam Malpractice and other unlawful acts within and outside the Schools and to see themselves as Exceptional and potential Leaders.

The Students while taking the Oath administered on them by a legal Expert in the ICPC, Mr Umar Narimi urged the taken newly Indicted ANTI-CORRUPTION Ambassadors to abide by the oath.
Highlight of the event were Presentation of Club Banners and copy of Rules and Regulations for each School drew from all the area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory.
