ICRC Support 50 Physically Challenged in Kano

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), have supported no fewer than fifty (50) physically challenged persons in Kano, so as to sustain their day-to-day livelihood.

The Head of Economic Security Unit of the ICRC in Kano Mr Musa Peter, made the disclosure while leading a training session of the beneficiaries in Kano metropolis.

He said the beneficiaries were carefully selected and were all successful beneficiaries of ICRC’s Micro Economic Initiative Program (MEIP) executed some month back.

Me Peter said, the business skills and financial literacy module, taught the beneficiaries how to generate business ideas, formulate viable business plan and develop the business plan into reality.

“They were also introduced to book keeping, to enable them ascertain the state of their businesses, weither it is profit or loss” he maintained.

“We trained them on generation of business ideas, the formulation of business plan, translating it to reality and managing it on day-to-day basis of managing of small businesses. ” Mr Peter said.

“They are already beneficiaries of the ICRC’s physical rehabilitation program, so it’s a collaboration between two departments, the physical rehabilitation program of the health department and micro economic initiative unitm whereby we give holistic approach towards stabilizing people living with disability.”

“After undergoing the physical rehabilitation process, we also take them to this micro economic initiative, so as to enable them get integrated with the community, thereby making them self-reliant.” Peter added.

Mr Peter further stressed that at the end of the training, the beneficiaries should be able to develop a good business plan that is feasible, implement a business to reality as well as keep the record of their transactions, so as to ascertain weather they are making profit or loss in the process.

One of the beneficiary Hamza Idris Jibrin and a caregiver Rahama Salisu appreciate the gesture saying it will greatly in fact in their life.

“We were thought how to market our commodities, how to save from the sales we made so that we support children who happens to be direct beneficiaries to this program” the duo said.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission, is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering, by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles.

Established in 1863, the ICRC is of the origin of the Geneva Conventions and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
