IGP Called For a Multi-sectoral Approach To Fight Cybercrime

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has called for a multi-sectoral approach in the fight against cybercrimes.

Mr. Egbetokun made the call at a cybercrimes awareness programme organized by the Federal Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the United States Embassy and other key stake holders in the sector.

Represented by the Commissioner of Police and Head of the NPF-National Cyber Crime Centre, Ifeanyi Uche, the IGP noted that the police had recognized the bad effects of organised crimes, which could jeopardise the fair administration of justice.

On her part, the Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, said legal professionals, Judges and law enforcement agencies now depend on secure digital infrastructure to effectively carry out assigned tasks.

Mrs Jeddy- Agba maintaibed that breaches in cybersecurity, could compromise the rule of law, and undermine the trust of citizens in the justice system.

“Hence, the importance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated, especially in the context of the criminal Justice system and access to Justice since robust and secure cyber environment is crucial for the effective functioning of the system” the Permanent Secretary said.

Represented by the Director, Solicitors, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Gladys Obegbero, the SGF said the awareness campaign was part of the Ministry’s efforts to combat cybercrimes.
