Civil Society organizations, CSOs and Non Governmental organizations, have been urged to always involve the Media in all their activities for enhanced service delivery.

This was the views of some panelists at the Media Panel session, with the Theme: “Working with the Media to Promote Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria’s AIDS/TB and Malaria Response: Matters Arising”. at the 2023 CSOs accountability forum held on 8th and 9th November 2023 in Abuja.

Leading the discussion, a Panelist and
Deputy Director News and Current Affairs,
Plateau Radio Television Corporation, Mr Wika Gofwen, decried lack of CSOs involvement of the media in their work.

Mr Gofwen explained that ” most times, some Civil society organizations, CSOs and other NGOs do not carry Journalists along during their advocacy work, trainings and other engagement, and the few that does, seems to see Journalists ( Media) as brown envelope people. To me this should not be the trend as the impression is very wrong.

Journalists are watchdog of the society. CSOs should not only invite them for event coverage, CSOs should involve them in their work. This will enhance transparency, and accountability”.

Another Media partitioner and a Reporter with News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Mrs Abiodun Azi, Who narrated her experience with some Civil society organizations, CSOs said involvement of Journalists in CSOs activities will not only enhance accountability and transparency but will also encourage a cordial relationship between them.

On his part, a Journalist with Radio Nigeria Benin, Mr Fortune Oyem who bemoaned the character of some CSOs and NGO executives in their activities towards some Media practitioners call for a roboost working relationship with the media as it will go along way in boosting their work.

Earlier in a remark, moderator of the event who appreciated the media for their support, urged CSOs to always involve Journalists in their activities of advocacy, workshops and Seminars.
