Kano 2024 Budget: Education Scores Large Share – Shanono

Kano state government has earmarked over 125 billion Naira to the education sector representing 28.78 percent in 2024 Budget.

The state commissioner for Planning and Budget Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono announced this during a Budget Breakdown in Kano.

The commissioner said the administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf promised to raise the state yearly spending on education in line with its efforts in revival the education sector.

“Since we assumed office, our administration has significantly improved education at Primary, secretary and Tertiary levels, living up to a pledge we made during the campaign. This is intended to give the state’s future leaders, access to high quality education,” the commissioner said.

Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono further said, the amount Budget by Kano state government on its this year’s education sector over 125 billion Naira representing 28.78 percent exceeds the 26.0 percent of the UNESCO declaration.

The commissioner pointed out that, Kano state government earmarked the sum of 73 billion Naira to the Health sector representing 16.46 percent in its efforts to provide a standard affordable healthcare services for easy access to both rural and urban residents, adding that the amount also exceeds Abuia Declaration in the health sector.

The commissioner further said, the sum of 58.88 billion Naira were earmarked for the state ministry for works and Housing and Transport sector will consume the sum of 4.8 billion Naira while state ministry for Land and Physical Planning were earmarked the sum of over 5.1 billion Naira.

Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono also said, kano state government earmarked the sum of 11 billion Naira to the state ministry for Agriculture and Natural Resources and its counterpart of Commerce, Industries and Tourism earmarked the sum of 5 billion Naira while state ministry for Women, social Development, youth and Sport earmarked the sum of 8.2 billion Naira, adding that ministry of environment and that of Judiciary earmarked the sum of 4.8 billion Naira and 14.3 billion Naira respectively.

The commissioner for Planning and Budget Alhaji Musa Sulaiman Shanono further said the state 2024 approved Budget to the tune of 437,338,312,787.27 billion Naira comprised the Recurrent Expenditure to the tune of 157,653,218,483.73 billion Naira and the capital Expenditure is 279,685,094,304.21 billion Naira.

“Approved Recurrent Revenue for the Fiscal year 2024 Budget stans at 379,762,289,575.00 consisting of 101,956,874,541.00 internally Generated Revenue and 277,805,415,034.00 expected from federation account allocation committee (FAAC) as against the 2023 total recurrent Revenue of 194,989,514,986.58.” Commissioner pointed out.
