In its Commitment to increase teachers’ strength through capacity building to achieve quality education, Kano State Government says it would continue to organize intensive training and retraining of teachers for both Primary and Post Primary Schools across the state.
The State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa made this known on Saturday while addressing 105 technical teachers from Kano currently participating at the ongoing 3-weeks training workshop organized by the Kano State Government in collaboration with National Project Coordinating Unit of Innovation Department and Effectiveness in the Aquisition of Skills (IDEAS) holding at Kaduna State
Umar Doguwa said, the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf is fully aware of the position of teachers as pillars of education success, which according to him explains the reason why teachers should be given the needed support to promote their performance.
In a statement signed by Director public enlightenment state ministry for education Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru the commissioner noted that teachers, infrastructures and teaching materials are the three basic components required to run the affairs of education sector, pointing out that…..” the remaining two components (infrastructures and teaching materials) depend solely upon the quality of education given by a teacher.
“I keep on telling people that education sector has three basic things required to run the system. And those things are the teachers, infrastructures and teaching materials but the last remaining two depend on the good performance of teacher who impacts the knowledge to students.
“So, a good teacher is the backbone of education and once you train and retrain teacher, definitely there will be what we called perfection in the discharge of his profession ” Doguwa maintained.
He assured that as part of the campaign promises of the present administration to give priority to the education sector, teachers would continue to receive regular training and retraining to increase their knowledge and experience.
Doguwa revealed that arrangements are in top gear to bring in another set of 1000 teachers from the state to Kaduna for an intensive training with the National Teachers Institute.
The Commissioner further called on the technical teachers to feel free and learn from what they would be trained for, assuring that the administration is determined to bring new programmes to move the education system to greater height.
” I am assuring you that we are doing all our possible best to make sure that teaching profession in the state would soon be revived to it’s past glory where a teacher is highly respected in the community ” said Doguwa.
The Commissioner He pointed out that the administration had procured and distributed teaching aids to schools statewide to ensure effective learning teaching process, stressing that renovation and construction works were carried out by the administration at some primary and post primary schools
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on teachers training Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Yanoko said with positive steps taken to improve education in Kano, there is nothing to do but to commend and pray for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to accomplish the tasks a head of him.
In his remarks, the Project Coordinator National Project Coordinating Unit of IDEAS Alhaji Sani Wada Bala explained that the training programme would cover 3 areas that include Pedagogy, Digital Skills and Trade Specific Areas, adding that all the necessary arrangements had been made to get the desired results.
