Kano Poly: We’ve Spent About 10 Million as Financial Assistance to Retirees — ASUP Endowment fund Chair.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ASUP says it has spent about ten million Naira as financial assistance in four important aspect to its members who retired from 2019 to date. 

The chairman Endowment Fund of the Union Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad made the disclosure at presentation of gift and stiptient to fifteen (15) members of the union who retires from January to December 2022 held at the premises of school of management studies.

He said the money was spent in rendering service on Retired staff at various capacities including Fires incidents, Health issues, Educational supports to children of retirees and other issues that may arise.

His words “A total of four million eleven thousand cight hundred naira (N 4,011,800.00) was expended as follows:

“The sum of three million, eight hundred and forty-six thousand and eight hundred naira only (N 3,846, 800.00), was incurred for the purchase of Food items (bags of 50 kg Rice, cartons of spaghetti and liters of vegetable oil), wall clocks, plaques and cash of money disbursed to the forty four (44) Retirees from March 2020 to December 2022”.

“In its eftort to continue engaging staff after retirement, Endowment Fund paid the sum of One hundred and sixty five thousand naira (N 165, 000.00) for a Workshop and training on Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition for ten (10) “.

“In accordance with the Bylaw, the sum of four hundred and fifty thousand naira (N 450,000.00) was paid as Fire Incidence assistance to two (2) Staff whose residential houses were seriously ravaged by Fire outbreak”.

“The sum of Four million Four Hundred and Seven thousand six hundred and seventy two naira (N 4,407,672.00) has been expended, thus”:

  1. Assistance for Neurological Treatment abroad (Cairo, Egypt) and other Medical assistance: The sum of three million, ten thousand, four hundred and forty-seven naira (N 3,010,447:00) was paid for Neurological treatment of a member at Cairo, Egypt”.
  1. Assistance to Purchase Carbon Foot and other Medical Services: The sum of seven hundred and eighty-seven thousand, and two hundred naira (N 787, 200:00) was paid for the purchase of Carbon Foot and other Medical Services of one of our member.
  1. Assistance for eye surgery: The sum of three hundred and six thousand, five hundred and twenty-five naira (N 306, 525.00) was paid to one of our member to undergo eye Surgery in Lagos because his eyes were close to nothing.

“The sum of one million and thirty-five thousand naira only (N 1,035,000.00) has so far been expended to eight biological children of three of our members who died while they were in service. The expenses comprise  of school fee and book allowances”.

Also speaking, the Chairman of ASUP Kano state polytechnic chapter Dr. Muttaqa Dahiru assured that the union well uses any resources at her disposal and initiative in consulting Kano state government is as to ensure that the retirees beneficial were dually paid as when it is due.

Dr. Dahiru said the union will push the entire union member’s demand especially in the issue of gratuity as well as pension saying that the management of the Polytechnic will work closely with the union so that all members’ issues will be resolved including those retired, those in active service and those who died while in active service.

He then congratulates the celebrants commending them for a job well done urging all staffs in active service to emulate.

In a remark, the Rector of the Kano state polytechnic Dr. Kabiru Bello Dungurawa represented by his deputy Muhammad Umar Kibiya urged all staff in active service at the Polytechnic community to emulate from their vast experience as well as dedication to service.

According to him the project is aimed at providing welfare of ASUP member, supporting members who are sick by financing their health Challenges, addressing issues of diseases members as well as funding educational carrier to the children of some members died during service.

Kibiya congratulate retirees and assured that the management of the institution will always work with them in case of needs arises especially by giving advice or contributions, saying that their gesture to the Polytechnic community will always be remembered.

During the 2022 ASUP Endowment fund program, 15 retirees was celebrated including Abubakar Saminu Yakasai, former head of department of Computer Engineering  and they were given Bags of rice, cooking oil, Awards of excellence as well as Twenty thousand Naira each.
