The Kano state ministry of environment says it will Desilt and Disinfect Jakara River, as part of it’s activities and efforts to check flooding as raining season approaches.
The commissioner of the ministry Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso made the disclosure while launching 2022 drainage clearance excercise at Jakara river in Community of Kano municipal local government area.
He said the excercise which commenced at Jakara River and Babangwari round about water ways in Dala local government area, was part of the state government effort in addressing issues of flooding experienced over the years in Kano.
Dr Kabiru Getso assured the members of the Jakara Community, that the ministry will immediately fumigate and disinfect the river immediately after completion of the current clearance excercise.
He then called of members of the community and the general public to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in water ways, saying such act will course outbreak of diseases in Kano and the country at large.
The commissioner recall the drainage clearance excercise coincided with keep Kano clean exercise which recorded tremendous a lots of success.
“We have evacuated over four thousand, three hundred (4,300) Tones of refuse in thirteen days (13) days within Kano metropolis”, said the commissioner.
“In the exercise which started in 16 April, 2022 we have evacuated seven hundred and eighty seven (787) trips of refuse, complete evacuation of thirty (30) collections centers while five (5) are at various completion stages, totaling to over four thousand three hundred(4,300) tones.
On their part, two of the community leaders in Jakara Alhaji Muhammad Salisu Dantsamage and Alhaji Umar Faruk Muhammad appreciate saying the development will make them sleeps with two eyes closed during raining season.
The duo then urged the state government disinfect the river as it will help in killing lava of many insects especially mosquitos so that the spread of communicable diseases will be addressed.
