KNHA Considers Clauses of 1999 Constitution for Review

The Kano State House of assembly has said that, it has swung into action for the consideration of the clauses of the 1999 constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended as conveyed by the National Assembly.

The Speaker of the house Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari made the disclosure during the opening of interactive session on constitution review with the theme “An overview of the fifth Constitution Alteration Bills, Rationale and lmplications for Governance and the socio economic development of Nigeria” held in Kano.

He said, in doing so, a committee was established under the leadership of the Deputy Speaker with the mandate to study and report back it’s finding as well as recommendations for conderation and final voting by the members of the assembly, and 42 bills were transpired to them.

Hamisu Chidari also reiterate the commitments and resolve in taking right decisions while condering the alterations for concurrence with the National Assembly.

He further said that the assembly will luck into the issue of Local Government autonomy.

The Chairman of the Adhoc committee on constitution review Alhaji Kabiru Hassan Dashi said that the committee has started deliberating on the matter.

Kabiru Dashi, who double as Deputy Speaker of the house, said that the committee will conduct a public hearing on the matter, were public opinion will be heard from all Calibre of people.

On his part, the Majority leader of the house, Alhaji Labaran Abdu Madari while fielding questions from newsmen said the assembly will critically dwelt on the clauses sent to them by the National Assembly.

He said this is the fifth time that the constitution would be reviewed.

Abdul Madari also said that when 24 out of 36 States of the federation accepted the review it has become valid.

The Falitator of the programme, Mallam Isa Surajo from PERL said the objective of the event for the participants was to reflect on the fifth Alterations Bills with a view to deepening their understanding of the provisions of the bills.

He said that this in building consensus among members around the bills and take informed decision during their consideration.
The event was attended by the State Lawmakers.
