Kano State House of Assembly has suspended Gwale Local Government Chairman Khalid Ishaq for three months over allegations leveled against him.
The house took the decision after it received report from the Committee of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Chairman of the committee Zubairu Hamza Massu presented the report during plenary session.
He said the committee finds that there is misunderstanding between the Chairman and the legislative council, and lack of synergy and the Chairman confess to the committee of selling government property without following due process.
Alh Zubairu Hamza Massu who is a member representing Sumaila constitunecy also said the committee recommend that, the House called on the Ministry for Local Government to cautioned Chairmen and legislative council to work hand in hand and the committee act based on the provisions on section (128) of 1999 construction as amended and section 150 of 2006 laws of Kano State which empower the assembly to checkmate the activities of MDA’S affirmed his suspension, and ordered his Vice to act on his behalf.
The six local government councilors of the council filed petition before him to the house. Which has constituted an Adhoc committee to investigate the matter with the Deputy Speaker as Chairman, Majority leader and Chairman of the committee as members, while Director Legal will serve as Secretary.
When the house took the decision members of the All Progressive Congress walk out of the chamber, but when contacted Minority leader Labaran Abdul Madari declined to comment.
The house called on the state government to notify Kano Electric Distribution Company to repair distribution lines and installations of transformers and other electrical equipment in Minjibir Local Government Area.
This followed a motion moved by the member representing the area Alh AbdulHamid and seconded by member representing Wudil Ali Abdullahi. He said, the equipment need urgent attention from the company.
The house also called on the state government to construct a road from Madobi to Rikadawa. This was also as a result of the motion tabled by the member representing the area Alh Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq.
The Kano State House of Assembly has appeals to the state government to rehabilitate Kofar Ruwa underpass.
This is sequel to the motion of urgent public importance sponsored by member representing Ungogo Aminu Sa’adu Ungogo. He said the underpass experiencing deteriorating condition which need urgent attention from the expert.
The house mandate it’s committee of works to visit the scene.
