KNSG Expends Over Six Million Naira For Procuring Sanitary Equipment — Kabiru Getso

The Kano state government says it has expended over six million Naira for the procurement of over four thousand, six houndred sanitations equipment and distributed it to street sweepers across Kano Metropolis, so as to bursts their Morale and keep Kano clean.

The statement commissioner for environment Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso made the disclosure while distributing the items to the sweepers, special squard that comparieses of tricycle riders, tractor operators and loader and pay loader operators, with an aim to protect them from other motorist plying Kano Roads.

At the function which held at the premises of refuse management and sanitation board REMASAB, Getso said the items were procured to improve their morale, efficiency and strategies put in place to address environmental chelleanges in the state.

Dr Getso said, the over 4,600 items procured to includes nine hundred(900) Metal Parkers, one thousands two houndred (1,200) reflector jacket, fifty three (53) Wheels Borrow, nine hundred (900) standing brooms, one hundred and fifty (150) Shovels, five hundred (500) pieces of Rakes among others.

According to the commissioner, “the road signs and reflector jackets were procured with a view to alert motorists that environmental officers were carrying out activities on the roads.”

“The provisions of this equipments was taken as protective measure, so that other road users, especially tricycles, motor cycle, cars operators don’t hit our workers while conducting their constitutional responsibilities”, Getso said.

Dr Kabiru Getso also said the state government have spent five millions naira (5,000,000.00) for repairing big buckets used by the heavy trucks in refuse collection as well as evacuation in the metropolitan areas, adding that the ministry still has many buckets to be repaired.

He said the state government will also procure other tools and gives it to all one thousand nine hundred and seventy-eight (1,978) that operates on daily basis, adding that the development is aimed at ensuring that Kano will be the cleanest city in Africa not only in Nigeria.

“We are going to ensure that every sanitation worker has necessary tools to operate and I believe this will go in a long way in improving sanitations in the state, a what say without fears of contradictions that Kano state government has accorded priority to environmental sanitation in the state”, Getso added.
