KNSG, Lafiya Organizes Training On Health Promotion Policy

Kano state government has assured its readiness to implement the health promotion policy in the state.

The state commissioner for health Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf stated this during a two day national health promotion policy sensitization and state and local government area level health promotion capacity assessment meeting organized by Lafiya Jari Program in collaboration with Kano state government held in Kano.

The state commissioner Represented by the Director public health and Disease control of the ministry Dr Ashiru Rajab said Kano state government is ready to partner with all relevant stakeholders to ensure providing health promotion services in the state.

“We start this discussion since last year but now we fulfill the precess.” The commissioner said

Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf also commended Lafiya Jari Program for the fully support and partnering with Kano state government for the implementation of the policy.

Speaking earlier, the Representative of minister of health Professor Muhammad Ali Pate said in the year 2006 health promotion division of family health department, federal ministry of health developed the interest of promotion policy.

“The draft policy was approved and adopted at the 49th national council on health and it launched at the 50th national council on health on January 11th 2007.” He added

Professor Muhammad Ali Pate further said in 2007 the federal ministry of health in collaboration with relevant stakeholders commenced the review of national health promotion policy after more than a decade of the implementation as well as emerging new trends in health promotion.

He congratulated Kano state government for this eventual commencement of the domestication consideration process.

” We are aware that Kano state started making efforts to do this, and that even now you are prioritizing this meeting over a number of other priorities.” The minister pointed out

The minister pointed out that the reversed policy was approved and adopted at the 62nd national council on health held in Asaba Delta state in 2019.

In presentation Mr. William Anyebe from Treeshade Associations said according to the first Global conference on health promotion (GCHP) Ottawa Ontario Canada 1986, the process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behavior towards a wide range of social and environmental intervention.

In a goodwill massage, a lecturer from department of medicine, Bayero University,Kano Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Hassan who is also chairman national association of health educators Kano state chapter sai the training will serve as a transition for those health educators in various MDA’s under the ministry for Health to sensitizing all the roles of health promotion as well as sensitize health educators in Kano state for the expectations waiting for them as health promoters.
