KNSG Pledges Continued Working Relationship with Development Partners


The Kano State government has assured development partners working to improving the healthcare system of the state of its readiness to further cementing an existing working relationship.

The state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, made the disclosure while receiving the Society for Family of Health (SFH) in his office.

In a statement signed by the information officer state ministry for health Ibrahim Abdullahi the Commissioner said that the administration of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has come with an excellent blueprint to enhancing the healthcare system of the state to the greater heights so as to attain the universal health coverage.

Dr. Labaran went further to say that Kano state government is very much aware of the contribution and efficient services partners are rendering to the healthcare sector of the state over the years, assuring them that the sustained rapport will continue colourfully flying for the benefit of the people of the state.

“I will like to thank you most sincerely. My doors are always open for you. Whenever you have anything, just call me or get any of the programme managers. We will give you maximum cooperation on all the projects, because they are meant for the people. The projects are not for me and you, they are rather for the public of which you want them to enjoy and benefit,” he averred.

The Commissioner maintained that he don’t see any project that should be rejected or avoided, stressing that “We have to encourage it and make sure that we succeed together. I want to assure you that you will continue get the support of the Kano state government.”

Dr. Labaran, however, charged the development partners to avoid delay in the implementation of the project, maintaining that untimely implementation of the projects after signing memorandum of understanding is what is hampering the success of any project.

Earlier speaking, the Regional Program Manager (RPM) of the Society for Family Health in the Northwest Region, Dr. Dayyabu Mahmud Yusuf, said they were at the ministry to congratulate the Commissioner for his appointment by His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf, thereby feels it important to come as a team to introduce the projects they are implementing in the state.

He explained that the SFH has seven projects working in the state namely IntegratE, USAID ICHSSA, Adolescent 360, TB LON 1&2, Global Fund Malaria, Global Fund NAHI and TB challenge facility for civil society project.

The RPM stated that the SFH is working with different donors including the USAID, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the British Government, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Global Fund and whole lots of other donors that are funding the projects currently working in Kano state.

Dr. Dayyabu said that the visit is to also identify bottlenecks hindering the success of some of the projects and solicit support of the Commissioner to address the challenges.

He acknowledged the magnanimity of Dr. Labaran for assuring them the continued interaction with each of the project and the commitment of the state government to support the projects to achieve the target of which they are set to achieve.

Each of the project coordinator gist Dr. Labaran of what the project entails, its successes and challenges which the Commissioner expressed commitment to critically look at them with a view to find the lasting solution.

Lastly, the SFH presented souvenirs of some of its projects to the Honourable Commissioner.
