KNSG Warned Residents Against Indiscriminate Dumping of Waste on Waterways, Roads

Written by Pyramid FM Kano
The Kano state government {KNSG} has warned residence to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially on the road and drainages.
The warning was issued by the Commissioner Ministry of Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso when he led members of the State Technical Committee on Refuse Evacuation to monitor the evacuation of refuse across the city.
The Commissioner observed with dismay how some unpatriotic people in some parts of the city convert roads to dumping sites despite the fact that the government has provided appropriate locations, at strategic places, for that purpose. He then called on them to refrain from the negative act or face wrath of the law.
In a statement signed by public relation officer of the ministry  Sanusi Abdullahi Kofar Na’isa quoted the commissioner as noting that while dumping refuse on streets would hinder the free flow of traffic and destroy the tarred roads, the dumping inside drainage could cause a disease outbreak and flood, sitting example with New road in Sabon gari, Shago Tara in Ja’en along Sharada road, Kwanar Madugu at Bachirawa and among others.
He finally appealed to the general public to continue cooperating with government and supporting its laudable policies and programmes on environment, especially by dumping of refuse at  the appropriate locations made  by the government for easy evacuation and to avert possible flooding.
Speaking during the Commissioner’s visit to New Road, a representative of the community who also double as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entrepreneurship Development Sabon Gari, Mr. Anthony Ifeanyi, commended the government and assured the Commissioner of the support from the residents of Sabon Gari area.
Also at Bachirawa one of the neighborhood of refuse collection center, Alaramma Muhammad Kabiru Sulaiman, an Islamic cleric and community leader, who spoke on behalf of the residents of the area, expressed his gratitude to the government for the evacuation exercise in the city, adding that the waste management investment company show their non-chalkland attitude to evacuate their refuse more than four months a go, despite their frequent request.
