Man, 29, to Die by Hanging For Killing Step Mother in Kano

The Kano State High Court presided over by Hon. Justice Aisha I. Mahmoud has sentenced one Sagiru Wada Abdullahi to death by hanging for stabbing a his step mother, Zainab DanAzumi to death.
Sagiru Wada Abdullahi, 29, a resident of Kurmawa Quarters in Kano Metropolis was on
2nd June, 2014 at about 0145hrs, attacked  and stabbed the deceased with cutlass machete severally, thereby inflicted deep injuries on her head, with the knowledge that his action will lead to  death of the deceased.
He earlier denied committing the offence, when he was arraigned on 27th April, 2018, an action which is contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State which is punishable with death, under the same Section.
To prove the case beyond any reasonable doubt, the Prosecution Counsel,  Barrister Tijjani Ibrahim (Chief State Counsel) Kano State Ministry for Justice, called  five (5) witnesses and tendered Six (6) Exhibits which include the confessional statement of the Defendant.
On his part, the convict, represented by Barrister Rabiu Abubakar, testified in his own defense and called Four (4) other witnesses.
After analysing the evidences adduced by both Counsel, Hon. Justice Mahmoud
satisfied that the Prosecution Counsel has discharged the  burden of proving the offence against the convict.
She consequently, convicted and sentenced the Defendant to death by hanging and wish Almighty God’s mercy
“The prosecution counsel has discharged the burden of proof against Sagir Wada Abdullahi,  you are hereby sentence to death by hanging. May your soul rest in peace.” Justice Aisha Mahmoud concluded.
