The Federal Ministry of Education has presented to the Federal Executive Council, FEC, guidelines for the implementation of transnational education in Nigeria.
Briefing State House correspondents on the document, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, said the. Ministry and the National Universities Commission, which prepared the document, viewed education as an exportable service Nigeria could benefit from.
He explained that by the guideline, a foreign institution could collaborate with local institution within the country, saying that it can establish a conference within the country, thereby and widening the scope of research in the country.
Dr. Sununu said economically, the transnational education, when established, would decrease the pressure on the dollar and increase access to education.
Meanwhile, the. Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, says FEC has approved this year’s renewal of the Group Life Assurance for Federal Government Staff.
The Minister told newsmen that the renewal, which involves 12 insurance companies, costs 9.6 billion Naira.
He explained that the assurance was an annual cover given by the affected companies to cater for the severely injured employees, and that in the case of death, their families would be the beneficiaries.
