The Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs has urged the Minister of Police Affairs and Inspector General of Police to take necessary steps in order to improve on the security across the country.
The National Assembly Joint Committee on Police Affairs chaired by Senator Abdulhamid Malam Madori (Senate Committee Chairman on Police Affairs) and Hon. (Dr.) Abubakar Makki Yalleman (House Committee Chairman on Police Affairs) said the security of lives and properties is a primary responsibility of every government, hence the need for Nigerian Police saddled with such responsibility to live up to expectations.
In a remark on behalf of the Co-chairman and other lawmakers in the committee, Hon. Abubakar Makki Yalleman said, National Assembly will do the needful to ensure the necessary things are done to enhance the performance of Nigeria Police.
Hon. Yalleman said, “we will do justice to the budget and ensure that our police force and all supporting institutions are able to function effectively and efficiently as possible.”
The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam said the ministry is working with the police other all other institutions to ensure they deliver on their mandate of ensuring internal security.
The Minister noted that one of the major problems facong the police is funding.
In the same vein, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun said the Nigerian Police under his leadership is determined to change the narrative for good.
He said their dream is to have a police force that is positioned to fight criminals and criminalities in the country’s diverse communities.
He expressed optimism that with the support of National Assembly and entire Nigeria, the security of the country will improve.
