NISS Trained 41 Farmers and Extension Agents On Use of Upgraded NISSAGRO Application 2.0

The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science NISS have trained 41 Farmers and Extension Agents from Northwestern states in Nigeria on the use of the Upgraded NISSAGRO version 2.0 Mobile Application in its efforts to digitalize farming system nationwide.

The training Workshop which was coordinated by Sharhabil Musa Yahaya (RSS) on behalf of the Zonal Coordinator of NISS said the main focus is on the training of participants on every part of the application with a view to promote their farming activities as well as train their colleagues at home so as to be parts of the beneficiaries of the use of the application. The training was held in Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority KNARDA office on December 29, 2022.

The farmers and Extension Agents or Farmers were drawned from seven states in the northern part of the country namely Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.

According to the coordinator “A total of 41 persons were in attendance including farmers (2 from each state), extension agents (2 from each state), NISS staff (8 in number), KNARDA officials (4 in number)”.

An expert on the use of application Aisha Buba from the NISS Headquarters in Abuja enjoyed trainees to contribute and gives their input for better usage of the application.

In his address, the Managing Director of KNARDA Dr. Junaidu Yakubu represented by Director Extension of the Agency Alhaji Gambo Isa commended NISS for organizing the train the trainers workshop on the use of the Upgraded application 2.0 and always choosing his organization as venue.

He tasked the participants to concentrate and learn the APP fully so that they will be good ambassadors in disseminating the information and training others on the APP.

Alhaji Gambo also commended the effort of NISS in upgrading version 1.0 to 2.0 in a short period of time, showing that the application is receiving much attention.

He also tasked NISS to monitor the stepdown training of the APP in the various states by the trained extension agents and the farmers.

The Managing Director then commended the NISS and the organizers for such a gesture and call for other Institutions in the country to emulate NISS so our farmers can benefit from their programs.

Meanwhile, Aisha Buba who conducted the training assisted by the other members of the NISS started by given the background information of the upgraded version of the APP, and pointing out all the different components added together with the special features added.

Reports says all the participants participated fully in the practical session of the training and all the technical issues raised were addressed by the resource person and her team members.

“Many questions were asked and some suggestions were pointed out on how to further improve the APP. Some of the suggestions include development of offline use of the app in areas where there are no internet services and GPS coordinate should be added in farm record taking”, she said.

She added that “More crops and publication in forms of cartoons and local dialect should also be added”.

At the end of the training, farmers and extension agents expressed their satisfaction and happiness on the improvement in the mobile APP and promised to step down the training to other members of their farmers groups.
