From: MUKHTAR YAHAYA SHEHU
In continuation with the executive supervision of immunization against polio being carried out in the state, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf has visited Kabo and Shanono local governments.

Speaking after conducting the supervision, Dr. Labaran has eulogized administration of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf for fulfilling its promises with regard to the provision of all the needed logistics, further commending the development partners for the fulfillment of their own part for the successful conduct of the exercise.

The Commissioner satisfied the way and manner of which adequate arrangements were made in the two local governments such as timely dispatch of teams of the implementing staff to immunization centres.

Represented by the Director General Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Prof. Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, Dr. Labaran has decried the zero dose of 61children found in Shanono local government within two days of the commencement of the second phase of the exercise.

In a statement signed by the information officer state Ministry for Health Ibrahim Abdullahi said this is an unwelcomed development as to how such number has been recorded within just few days of the second phase, adding that though they have been told it is as a result of the border the local government is sharing with some local governments like Gwarzo, Bagwai, etc and even people from Katsina State do coming to access health services, yet they instructed for deeper investigation for the proper action to be taken.

The Commissioner has thumbed up the Kabo local government for making adequate preparations for the exercise including flag-off, pointing out that there has been no report showing the chairman and the district head of the local government have attended the event, they were rather only represented.

He also lambasted the haphazard arrangement and disorganization in one of the immunization centres in the local government with code 035.

“We have gotten poor arrangement in the station so much that even some of the implementing staff were absent by the time we visited, thereby making all their record system faulty.

‘We drew the attention of the HOD and showed him the lapses and henceforth corrected all the anomalies to ensure the station remains in order from initial to the exit points.

“We didn’t leave the station until we ensure all is been doing according to the planned procedures”, Dr. Labaran lamentably explained.

The Commissioner stated that the HOD has been instructed to punish the focal person and other staff that are in the group, and the zonal director should be in the light of the punishment taken so as to communicate to the state.

Proffering his general assessment on the second phase of the exercise, Dr. Labaran expressed satisfaction for the accomplishments recorded in the two local governments, stressing that based on the target coverage as at the time visited, both local governments have covered over 40% of the target population and optimistically assured that they will complete everything in the remaining days of the exercise.
