Public Views To Be Prioritized on Constitutional Review, KNHA tells Populace

The Kano state house of assembly has assured that views of the participant at the public hearing on 1999 constitution of federal republic of Nigeria as amended will be considered with utmost respect.

The speaker of the assembly Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari made the discloser while declaring the event open held in Kano.

He said contributions received from participant during previous public hearing have been given tremendous important and remain key in decision making.

His word in full: All protocol observed, “Let me begins by thanking Allah (SWT) for sparing our lives to witness this historic day for the conduct of Public Hearing on the 5th alteration of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

“I wish to welcome all our invited guests to this Honorable House for making time out of your busy schedules to honor our invitation to attend this public hearing on the view of the constitution”.

“Recall that this Honorable House was in receipt of correspondence from National Assembly Conveying the alteration of 44 Bills that require our deliberation and subsequent voting for concurrence with the National Assembly. In discharging this important National And responsibility, the Honorable House has held series of meetings including stakeholders’ engagement for the purpose of collecting public inputs and professional advice that will help in addressing some of the gaps identified in the constitution”.

“Consequently, as representative of the people and in order to comply with the principles of openness and inclusiveness, the Honorable House is always keen to subjecting any critical Bill under consideration to Public Hearing. This is in our effort to widely consults with the members of the public in taking the right decision for concurrence with the National Assembly”.

“Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen”. “The numerous Contributions received from participants during previous public hearings have been of tremendous importance to the Honorable House. “They did not only ease and facilitated the passage of the Bills, but also, more importantly, they added value and credibility to our law-making processes”.

“Accordingly, I want use this medium to call on all the participants to direct your presentations, comments and observations on the subject matter. On our part, as legislators, I want assure you that your views will not only be appreciated but will also be considered with utmost respect. We shall, therefore, continue to be gratefully indebted to you for your interests in our legislative proceedings”.

“At this juncture, I wish to thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR (Khadimul Islam) for the support he has always being given to this Honorable House in the discharge of our constitutional responsibilities”.

“Equally, on behalf of my colleagues Honorable Members, I wish to extent my sincere appreciation to our development partner especially PERL for the support and technical guidance we have been receiving at all times. In the same vein, I would like to extend my gratitude to our respected traditional rulers, Civil Society Organization and all other partners for sustained bilateral engagement”. “We thank you most sincerely and we look forward for more bilateral engagements”.

“Lastly, while hoping for a successful deliberation, I request that you will continue to honor our invitations whenever any other Bill is proposed for public scrutiny”.

“Finally, In the name of Almighty Allah (SWT), it is my pleasure to declare the Public Hearing on the 5th alteration of the constitution officially opened”.
