SEEDAN President Calls for Government Support to Boost Seed Production in Nigeria

Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya, the National President of the Seeds Entrepreneurs and Development Association of Nigeria (SEEDAN), has urged the Federal Government to provide support to Agricultural Research Institutions and Agricultural Universities to boost seed production in Nigeria.

Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya made the call at a press briefing held in Kano.

He said the call was timely considering the role of Agricultural Universities and Research Institutions are playing in the food production in the country.

He explained that the SEEDAN is planning to embark on a massive campaign on the importance of seeds to the development of Agriculture in Nigeria.

Kibiya stressed that the group is embarking on the initiative ” so that Government leaders at all levels could appreciate the importance of seeds to the development of Agriculture.”

He said the venture was also to make farmers understand the value of new generation seeds towards their productivity.

He noted that the group would work with International Agencies desirous of helping Nigeria’s seed sector for the benefit of Nigerian farmers.

The President said the association’s Mission also includes working with and supporting Research Institutes and Universities for the development of early generation seeds for the benefit of the seed industries and Nigerian farmers.

He explained that the association would work to raise the value of seed industries by working with financial institutions to make financial access affordable and less cumbersome.

He said the association would establish a suitable office complex with working facilities in Abuja and in the six geo-political zones in the country.
