SMS Alumni KSP: We’ve Records Nine Success in Twelve Months — Kabir Isa

The Kano state Polytechnic, school of management studies SMS Alumni Association says it has recorded Nine (9) success in Twelve (12) Months in it’s efforts to take the union to a greater heights.

The National President of the association comrade Kabiru Nasiru Isa state this at the union 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM), themed “Alumni Entrepreneurial Mindset as a Catalyst for Economic and Educational Development amidst COVID-19” held in Kano on Tuesday.

According to him he executives of the association have worked round the clock in moving the association to a greater height, adding that the development was made possible by the support received from school of management studies and by extension the Kano state polytechnic authorities.

He said “the Exco worked round the clock in moving the association to a greater height”. “This was made possible by the support we are receiving from the School of Management Studies and Kano State Polytechnic authorities respectively, as well as members and all donors/ philanthropists who have identified with us in this crusade”.

The president said “For the year under review, the Executive Council was able to achieve the following, as part of the Action Plan:

“Building more cordial Relationship with School of Management Studies and Kano State Polytechnic;

“Securing a Take-Off Grant to the tune of N500,000.00 from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Kano State;

“Office Allocated at SMS, Kano State Polytechnic, (as the National Secretariat), and fixing of Two Sign Boards;

“Organized two notable events at School of Management Studies: First, One Day Sensitization Lecture on the Theme: Build the Youth, Build the Nation on 27th July, 2022. In which various heads of organizations were invited to give talks to the students aimed at building capacity in them, that include: NPF, INEC, NDLEA, EFCC, ICPC, NDE, KAROTA, CITAD, LESPADA, KSCSF, IITA, Guidance & Counselling Unit Kano State Polytechnic”. “And the second being a Kick-off of Sanitation Exercise on 29th July 2022, in which sanitation items were donated to the school;

“Courtesy call to the Emir of Bichi, on the 4th of November 2022;

“Appointing the President, SMS Alumni into a Committee for the sourcing of Philanthropists who will come and execute capital projects in SMS;

“Visiting some former lecturers (who have retired from service) and giving them cash donations in appreciation of the role they played in producing us;

“Visiting families of some deceased members and also giving them cash donations as support and friendship;

“Organizing the 4th AGM today;

The president then urged association’s members to do their best in contributing both financially and morally so that the other issues on the plan and NOT achieved which includes lunching of Almanac and Awards Night for MDAs, companies and performing students, and the second Establishment of Alumni Cooperative society, Targeting and Job Opportunities to Members among others.

In a paper presentation titled “Youth, Government and Democracy : Focus on 2023 general elections, the Head of Department of Public Administration of Bayero University Kano Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dukawa emfercise on how Youth in Nigeria were marginalized as well as denied access to power leaving them to become batallion of political Cruces and elites.

Dr. Dukawa represented by Dr. Riyauddeen Zubairu Maitama chelleanges youth in Nigeria to create political party that will champion their activities and contribute towards uplifting their life, saying that the act in which electorals law prevent in independent candidate in elections in Nigeria hinders youth from been elected as leaders.

In the paper which focused on Why Youths should Participate in Politics in Nigeria, Dr. Riyauddeen said “Citizenship participation in politics is a significant element of democratic governance all over the world including Nigeria”. “The structure and amount of citizenship in political participation can have influence on the degree and quality of government and governance”. “Quite a number of reasons could be deduced for why many Nigerian citizens particularly the youths participate in politics or engage in governance related activities”.
