Stopping Illegal Connections, Meter Bypass to Improve Power Supply, KEDCO Tells Customers

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has advised customers against engaging in meter bypass and illegal connections in Kano franchise as the Acts undermine company’s efforts in constant supply of electricity to timing customers.

According to the Management, illegal connections and meter bypass amongst others constitute the biggest threats to improvement in power supply and had also resulted to economic losses for the company.

In a statement signed by Deputy General Manager Corporate Communications of the KEDCO Ibrahim Sani Shawai quoted the management as saying that in recent time, “our taskforce had uncovered several households that had bypassed their meters and engaged in illegal connections”.

“Those caught are advised to come and pay their penalties for reconnection as refusal to pay such penalties before reconnecting your line will result to more penalties”, it said.

It said “Soon KEDCO will deploy all legal means to ensure the prosecution of unrepentant customers who engage in illegal connections and meter bypass”.

“Customers ought to know that any acts of illegality in Kano franchise threatens improvement in supply and it also threatens safety of lives and property, hence the appeal to those engaging in these acts to desist from them as the consequences are affecting all stakeholders”, added the statement.
