In Zamfara, Suspected Bandits Again Attacked The Nasarawa Area in Maru town at about 2am today (Friday) three days after they attacked the Maru emir’s Palace and were thwarted by a gallant police officer.
The Bandits arrived at Maru town in their large numbers carrying sophisticated weapons. The attackers killed four persons and injured two others.
In a phone interview a resident of the area Lauwali Salisu told Radio Nigeria that troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) who responded to distress calls placed on them engaged the Bandits in a gun duel between 2:30am to 5:00 am.
Radio Nigeria also gathered that the Bandits have ransacked some houses in the town and vandalized them before they withdrew due to the fighting power of the armed forces during the firefight that ensued.
Tuesday’s attack was on the palace of the Emir of Maru, Alh Abubakar Gado Maigari, where the terrorists killed one and abducted an IT officer of the Emir who is still in captivity.
Consequently, the Zamfara state government has announced the closing of the Maru Market indefinitely until the security of the town is improved.
Commissioner, Ministry of information and culture Munnir Haidara Kaura who announced the shutdown of the market through the director of information of the ministry, said the directive was with immediate effect.
It could be recalled that, recently bandits intensify attacks on communities in Gusau, Maru and Kaura Namoda local government areas including other vulnerable areas in the state. With stiff resistance from the security operatives that thwarted some of the attacks.
