Two PDP Leaders Arraigned For Conspiracy, Perjury Against Muhammad Abacha

Fagge Local Government Chairman and Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Muhammad Auwal and Umar Alhassan respectively have been arraigned before Kano Chief Magistrate Number 29 for alleged Criminal Conspiracy, Perjury and Inciting Public disturbances against Muhammad Abacha’s Party Membership.

The Police arraigned the duo before Chief Magistrate Talatu Makama, sitting at No-man’s-land upon a letter of criminal complaint written to Inspector General of Police in Abuja by counsel to the Nominal Complainant, R.O Atabo, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) from R.O Atabo and Co Liberty Chambers.

Subsequently, the IGP directed Zone one Kano, to investigate the alleged offence.

Police investigation found the 2 suspects culpable for criminal, conspiracy, Perjury and Inciting Public Disturbance, contrary to section 97, 158 and 114 of Penal Code Law.

The content of First Information Report (FIR) Reads:That six months ago or thereabout, before the conduct of PDP Gubernatorial Primary Elections in Kano, Muhammad Abacha was issued with a PDP membership card of his ward at Fagge ‘B’ in Fagge Local Government area of Kano State by the Ward Chairman Muhammad Auwal and the Secretary Umar Alhassan and was signed by the both of them.

The investigation according to the Police FIR explained that the issuance of the membership card authenticate Muhammad Abacha membership of the Party in Fagge ‘B’ of Fagge Local Government area of Kano State.

“But after Muhammad Abacha contested the State Gubernatorial Primary Elections and won, you conspired jointly and lied under oath before a Federal High Court where you stated that Muhammad Abacha was never issued with a PDP membership Card of Fagge ward and is not a PDP member which fact you knew and have reasons to believe is false and is capable of inciting public disturbances in the State”.

The Police continue “you are hereby arraigned for the above mentioned offences which is contrary to section 97, 158 and 114 of the Penal Code Law”.
