We’ll Protect Interest of Teachers to the Best Of Our Ability — NUT Chair, Baffa Garko

The elected new chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko has promised use every resources at his disposal, right set aside by the constitution of the Union and state civil service to protect the interest of teachers in Kano state and country as whole.

Comrade Ibrahim Garko made the disclosure at the Union’s 13th Quadrennial Conference of Delegates with the theme “Building of a New Nigeria: The role of a Teacher in a National transformation” and enaugurating new executives of the Union seddle with responsible of running its affairs in the next four years held in Kano.

He said the Union under his watch will focused in supporting any movement capable of ensuring the welfare of teachers, payment of salaries as it is when due, promotion of teachers to various level as well as implementations of promotional entitlement among others.

According to comrade Garko, the Union during the year under review have achieve a number of success ranging from introduction of a welfare gesture package of financial assistance to members as regards medical attention, death and during the holy month of Ramadan and Sallah festivals.

“We have provide and support members with funds as it affects further studies,
training re-training, courses and other educational activities for capacity building to facilitate effective teaching and learning”, he added.

“Provision of ultra-modern office accommodation with all accessories and equipment for sound and effective conducive atmosphere for a higher productivity”.

“We have purchased a new Bus to ease transportation problem. Facilitate the registration of 11,236 Teachers into TRCN as qualified and certified Teachers”, he said.

He said “We have Introduced end well scheme to all SWEC members in the state”.

Baffa Garko then solicit for support and advice from all members of the Union saying that he will always available at the service of his members.

In a remarks, the national chairman of the NUT comrade Amber Audu Titus represented by state chairman of Adamawa comrade Rudin S. Nathan decried the number of problem facing the Union in different parts of the countries ranging from lack of promotion on time, teachers retiring with out replacement, law female teacher in primary teacher among others.

Comrade Nathan then urged federal and state government to as a matter of urgency to centerilize payment of salaries to primary school teachers to either State or local government.

He then commended Kano state government for it’s Support to the Union, expecially payments of salaries as at when due and recruitment of two thousand (2,000) teachers.

The chairman then urged Federal government to promote teacher in it’s main stream civil service, recruitment of new teachers and payments of their duelly entiletiments.

Also speaking, Kano state Governor of Kano state Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje represented by the executive secretary Kano state senior secondary school management board Dr Bello Shehu assured the government commitments in ensuring the payment of salaries as at when due.

He said the state government has harmoniacily pencil down all the primary and secondary school teacher for promotion as well as implementations of the payment of their entitlement.

According to Bello Shehu the committee set-up by the state government for profer implementations of promotion and their new salaries will soon complete his work and the state government will immediately implement for the benefits of all teachers in the state.

Shehu then urged teacher in the state to support the present administration of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje so as to achieve the desired objectives.

The remaining executives sworn during the conference were Comrade Isiyaku Aliyu 1st vice chairman, Aminu Adamu Hassan as 2nd vice chairman, Kabiru Garba Fagge as 3rd vice chairman, comrade Ubale Bala as 4th vice chairman, comrade Sunusi Dayyabu Munjibir as state Deputy chairman, comrade Maimuna Garba as state secretary and comrade Baba Bashir Muhammad as treasure.

Others were Comrade Adamu Abdussalam as Auditor I, comrade Kabiru Muhammad as Auditor II,  Abdullahi Muhammad state social secretary, comrade Bala Ali as assistance social secretary and comrade Magaji Sani Sadiq as state publicity secretary.
