The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has raised alarm over increasing cases of cable theft and transformer vandalism in its area of coverage following the commencement of the wet season.

In a statement signed by Chief Corporate Communications Officer, KEDCO Ibrahim Sani Shawai quoted the Management as saying that the increase in the menace is causing serious economic loss and hindering efforts at guaranteeing constant supply to customers.

Those vandalising our equipment are taking advantage of the raining season to sneak into our transformers to vandalise cables, steal oil and other valuable items.

Reacting to the situation, the MD/CEO, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna has appealed to the general public to help KEDCO by reporting attempts to vandalise or steal any of KEDCO’s equipment.

Dr Gwamna stated that the company was concerned about the menace in view of the danger such acts were exposing the general public and even the perpetrators to.

“We have strengthened our surveillance in that regard to ensure that anyone caught will be made to face the legal consequences of their actions.”

“The general public should also help KEDCO in community policing especially with regard to our transformers and other equipment,” Gwamna added.
