We’ve Evacuated Over 4,300 Tones Of Refuse in 13 days — Kabiru Getso

The Kano state government says it has evacuated over four thousand, two hundred (4,300) Tones of refuse in thirteen days (13) days within Kano metropolis.

The state commissioner for Environment Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso disclosed this during inspection tour to various collections centers in the state.

He said in the exercise which started in 16 April, 2022 they have evacuated seven hundred and seven (787) trips of refuse, complete evacuation of twenty nine (30) collections centers while five (5) are at various completion stages, totaling to over four thousand two hundred(4,300) tones.

Dr Getso said some collections centers that were evacuated included Kofar Mata Eid ground and Yakasai Bola all in Municipal local government area, Koki Sarari in Dala and Dandago in Gwale local governments areas respectively.

“The whole essence of the exercise is to ensure that all waste in Kano is evacuated so that we don’t give rooms for the rain to wash refuse into our drainages so as we prevent occurrence of diseases”, he said.

“The program was initially designed to last for ten days, but his Excellency the executive governor of Kano state Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, directed us to extend it by another ten days, in view of the huge amount of refuse in the metropolis that was not evacuated.

Getso expressed that Eid el fitr festivities are around the corner, so there is absolute need for the town to be cleaned thoroughly.

The Commissioner further enjoyed members of the public to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in water ways, saying such act will course outbreak of diseases in Kano and the country as whole.
