We’ve Reached out 780 Individuals, Create 21 VSLA Groups in One Year in Kano — CAGSI Executive Director

The Center for Advocacy in Gender and Social Inclusion (CAGSI) says it has reached out over 780 individuals and create Twenty One Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) with a view to promote resilience in people and good governance so as to promote economic development in Kano state.

The executive director of (CAGSI) Mrs Maryam Garba Usman stated this in an interview with journalist to mark the conclusions of the program aimed at Promoting resilience and good governance through citizens participation and economic empowerment in Kano state.

She said the program which was implemented in one year across six local governments area in three Emirates council is supported by European Union through Agent for Citizens-Driven Transformation program (ACT), encourage women participations in inputting public interest in the 2023 local government budget aimed at improving the life of people.

The Executive Director said the program cut across six LGAs namely Tarauni and Fagge in Kano Emirate council, Dambatta and Dawakin Tofa in Bichi Emirate and Gaya and Dawakin Kudu in Gaya Emirate council.

She said “we have create six advocacy groups, 780 individuals benefited directly from the program and 198 demands were generated from the community dialogue as inputs to the respectives political wards in the 2023 LGA budget”.

“Out of 630 members of VSLA Groups only seven (7) are males while all others are female. From the figures, 330 uses what they have gained to bursts their existing businesses and as i am speaking to you their business are improving”, said Maryam Usman.

“Our target is to formed 18 VSLAs, but we were able to formed 21 groups and gives the a loans to about 9.5 million naira so as to improve their existing and new businesses” said Mrs Garba.

Maryam Garba then Urged the beneficiaries to sustain the businesses so as to improve their livelihood saying that CAGSI remain mobile in producing programs and activities aimed at improving people’s lives.

In a remarks, the Emir of Gaya Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya represented by Dan-ajiyan Gaya Alhaji Shamsu Kademi appreciate CAGSI’s efforts in uplifting the life of his subjects.

He said emir Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya’s administration remain committed to support any programs, policies and strategist with the aim of improving livelihood.

He then Urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of what they have obtained in the process.

The event has in attendance, the representatives of all the VSLA, the district head of Tarauni, representatives of all the district head of benefiting LGAs, civil society organizations and the journalist.
