You Will Be Emulated – WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO), Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Walter Mulombo, has described outgoing Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu as a true leader who has made significant efforts in combating health crises in the country.

Dr Mulombo stated this in Abuja at the Valedictory session in honour of Dr. Shuaib, organised by the Forum of CEOs of State Primary Healthcare Development Agencies/Boards across the country.

According to him, Dr.Faisal Shuaib, who was appointment by the former president, Muhammadu Buhari in January 2017 played a significant role in aiding Nigeria during the challenging times of wild polio and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WHO Representative in Nigeria who also acknowledged Dr.Shuaib’s invaluable contributions to Nigeria achieving polio-free status as well as during the Ebola outbreak, said he was leaving behind strong institutions, making it easier for his successor.

“We’ll follow your path and support your success. Every Nigerian must have a mission, and you’ll discover your next one, sharing your expertise with the world. You’re a great example of courage and purpose. Thanks for your collaboration and contribution to Nigeria and WHO”

Also, the Chief of Health at UNICEF Nigeria, Eduardo Celades said that Dr.Shuaib has been at the forefront of transforming Nigeria’s healthcare, from polio eradication to the revitalisation of primary healthcare.

“This vision has led to changes such as transitioning from stand-alone campaigns to integrated ones, introducing HPV vaccine, addressing rotavirus, implementing the PHC under one roof program, and making a real impact on the lives of the people of Nigeria, especially women and children”

He described Dr Shuaib as a brilliant individual, saying it has been a true pleasure and an honour to be a part of his journey.

For the Co-founder of Association for Reproductive and Family Health, Prof. Oladapo Ladipo, Dr. Shuaib demonstrated great capabilities in the science of healthcare in the country.

He further observed that the celebrant managed financial resources effectively and efficiently utilized the available resources under him.

In a remark, the former Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaibu appreciated the organizers for the honor done to him and urged them to corporate with his successor, Dr Muyi Aina who was recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu to succeed him.
